Film sets, ghetto walls, art and city views
With some extra days in Krakow here is a list of five more things you can do:

1. Explore the south side of the river and hunt out the past in the old Jewish ghetto area. Look for remains of the ghetto wall - we found some in a playground at the side of a school.

2. Walk up Krakus Mound - a pre-historic monumental mound and the highest point in the city with a 16 metre high summit - we had great views of rain travelling across the city to meet us.

3. Find Steven Spielberg's film location - if you explore the area next to Krakus Mount you will find Liban Quarry, where victims of the Nazi labour camp, Plaszow, were made to work. Steven Spielberg used the quarry when filming Schindlers List. It is a strange, eerie, abandoned place. There you will find remnants of quarry machinery, barbed wire, fence posts and watchtowers. Flags of gravestones line some of the paths - these were set down by Spielberg. It feels haunted and very atmospheric.

4. On the way back to the city look out for the large wall art mural showing the history of Krakow and some amazing street art in the Podgorze and Kazimierz districts.

5. Back in the old town, take in some culture by visiting the Feliks Jasieński Szołayski House and enjoy browsing through Felix Jasienski's art collection. This is near the French restaurant and bakery, Charlotte (see previous blog post), handy for coffee afterwards. The collection contains Polish art, Japanese art, fabrics, carpets, woodcuts and plenty of artist's sketches (by the likes of Whistler and Goya).
